An arrhythmia is a heartbeat that is too fast, too slow or irregular, caused by a fault in the heart's electrical signalling. Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is a common fast rhythm seen even in babies.
Symptoms can include palpitations, unusual tiredness, breathlessness or fainting. Diagnosis uses ECG and Holter monitoring; most arrhythmias are well controlled with medication, and selected cases benefit from catheter ablation.
